Empowering Educators at Myrtle Beach

Our PBIS team recently attended a transformative two-day Conscious Discipline training in Myrtle Beach, focusing on Understanding and Responding to Anger & Rage. This enriching experience has equipped us with invaluable tools to better support our Head Start staff and students.

What is Conscious Discipline?

Conscious Discipline is a trauma-informed, evidence-based approach that prioritizes adult self-regulation and emotional intelligence to foster a safe and connected learning environment. By understanding the brain states and utilizing the Seven Powers for Conscious Adults, educators can effectively manage their own emotions and respond to children’s challenging behaviors with empathy and composure. This methodology transforms everyday discipline issues into teachable moments, helping children develop essential social-emotional skills.

What is Positive Behavior Intervention Systems (PBIS)?

Positive Behavior Intervention Systems (PBIS) is an evidence-based, tiered framework designed to improve students’ behavioral, academic, social, and emotional outcomes. PBIS emphasizes proactive strategies for defining, teaching, and supporting appropriate student behaviors to create positive school environments. By implementing PBIS, schools can reduce disciplinary incidents, improve school climate, and enhance overall student success.

Our Experience

During the training, our team delved into practical strategies for addressing anger and rage in the classroom. We learned how to create a School Family atmosphere that promotes connection and cooperation among students and staff

The insights gained from this training will be instrumental in enhancing our PBIS framework, ensuring that we provide a supportive and nurturing environment for all our Head Start children.

Moving Forward

We are excited to integrate the principles of Conscious Discipline and PBIS into our daily practices. By fostering emotional intelligence and positive behavior, we aim to create a thriving educational community where every child can succeed. Stay tuned for more updates on our journey towards building a more conscious and connected school environment!
